The Weekend

Friday: I made my way to Etobicoke, were I met with Miranda. We did some grocery shopping (pictures of the whole weekend are here), then picked up Mitul. We got back on the 401, and headed out for Presqu’ile.

We arrived a few hours later, and began setting up camp. Then our first misfortune hit: the locking mechanism on the trunk of the car broke. We quickly agreed that freaking out about it would be pointless, so we would just make some dinner. Then the second misfortune: the wood we had bought was wet, and absolutely would not burn. So we gave up on dinner, and just tucked in to S’mores, chips and salsa, and similar junk food. We then laid out on the grass, and feasted our souls on the star-filled night sky.

Saturday: For some reason beyond my understanding, the girls woke up at 6 or 7 a.m. and expected me to do the same. I made disgruntled noises, and they went out for a walk. They came back a few hours later, we made eggs for breakfast on the camping stove, and decided to drive into town to bet some veggies and rope for the car.

The town of Brighton was adorable beyond words. The shops were almost all small, independently owned places, the houses and streets were very cute. After we got back to Presqu’ile, we went for a walk to see the second oldest lighthouse in Canada. As we were returning to the camp site, it started to rain. We dove into the tent, and napped.

A few hours later we got up, saw that it was sunny and beautiful, and decided to make lunch. We lit up the stove and started boiling water for some mac-and-cheese. During this process, it started to rain again. I decided that I wasn’t gonna let the weather boss me around, so I took out an umbrella and stood there stirring the mac-and-chesse, while it rained buckets around me. We dove into the tent, are our lunch, and napped again.

We woke up a few hours later, and went for a walk. When we came back to the camp site… it stared to rain again. We made sandwiches in the tent, and it stopped raining. By this point, everything outside was so wet that there was no point in leaving the tent, so we… fell asleep.

Sunday: The wood finally dried out, and we made a fire. Many deaths. We had some adventures in cooking over flame, and then went to the beach. I was having my period this weekend, so the beach excursion requited my using a tampon for the first time in my life. I won’t get into any more detail about that right now, since it is probably not an appropriate topic for the blog medium, but suffice to say I was deeply disturbed. We came back about an hour later to pack up our camp site, and returned to the beach. It was absolutely gorgeous, and felt like being at the ocean. That damn lake is just so big, it doesn’t seem like it could possibly end. We swam around a bit and laid out in the sun a lot, and had a wonderful time.

As we were getting into the car, I realized that I had sustained sever burns to my legs. They got worse and worse as the day wore on, and I now feel as though I’d left my legs in an oven. I’m rubbing on aloe vera constantly, and I hope I will recover soon.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend. Every time we ran into difficulties we maintained a positive attitude, and consequently we never got snappy with one another. It was absolutely beautiful out there, and we need to do something like that again.

Then I got home, and Marcos dumped me again.
