please go to this editorial, before reading my little rant. or don't. the rant is ranty either way.

the editorial concerns christina aguillera's new video, and ed makes the comment that what's wrong is the negative reaction it's gotten. he says what's wrong is the negative way people view women who assert control over their own sexuality, but say nothing about urban artists, who cover themselves with women in their videos.

no. i, for one, at least, don't approve of such videos either.
and that's because i don't like the commercilization of sex. i don't like commercilization of anything. it seems like it objectifies sex, reduces it to nothing more than a money-making device, or the result of money.
i don't want to be sold sex. i want to earn it. i want to be rewarded with sex for being a good person, for being intelligant and respect-worthy and for living in accordance with my values. i don't want to be given sex because i can affiord the lifestyle that had been arbitrarily assigned to it.

money, like any value, is what you get for behaviour, not the behaviour used to obtain a value. what i mean is, you receive money for work. you should not be able to get work for money (that is, should not be able to exploit people). you should get respect for being a good person, but not assume that the fact you are respected gives you the right to be bad.

or, more importantly, i don't think you should be able to buy sex any more than you should be able to buy success or respect or intelligance or charm or friendship. these are things you must work for, and earn. and to put sex in a catagory of things you can buy makes it worthless, just like a purchased friendship.

i'm sure there are feelings in here that i want to express ::: taps self ::: but i can't bring them up. i guess the mroe you write the easier it is. and ever since i've lost my computer and internet access, i haven't bee writing poetry, maintaining my blog, or my real journal. so all the forms of writing i do have been forsaken. in fact, i think my only source of writing is my writer's craft and english classes. how sad...

as i was just telling max, i hope it doesn't turn out that in the two months he's here i only see him a handful of times. but he can't really afford to come down from ajax, and i'm busy on a lot of weekends, and december is so close at hand...

mansfield and i went to york university last night for a debate. the topic was "theism vs. atheism, does god exist?" the theist seaker was a physicist and a christian, and the atheist was an older u of t prof with a lot oh philosophy training. it really wasn't that great. they both had weak points, but what bothered me most was the very narrow definition of "god." actually, as we were leaving, i heard one guy making the same comment, how they totally neglected any more easter view of god. i was listening to this kid speak and thinking "yes, my brother! i am among my own people!" even just sitting in the lecture hall, i was amazed that there were enought people interested in religion to FILL A LECTURE HALL! it was just so exciting, and i am really looking forward to university, even if i do study math.

actually, december 5 i have to send in my university applications. and hell, i've still not registered for the SATs! well, i have a long while to do them, so it's not that big a deal...

i won't be going to the karate tournament tomorrow. i'm dissapointed, i was hoping to. but my kata, pinan shodan, is giving me a lot of trouble. the last one i learned, pinan nidan, was fine. i learned it quickley, and preformed it at the spring tournament (got 4th place). but i just can't get my brain wrapped aroung this one. (btw, a "kata" is a patter that we learn, to help pratice our fighting technique).

and, of course, i have to go get ready for salsa now. ::: grumble :: i don't like it. at all. sigh...

the only down in my life right now (besides the internet thing, and besides that fact that one of vit's friends is visiting, so i have to sleep on the couch) is that the radio station we want to start at school is not working out. at every turn we get shot down. our fundraising ideas we couldn't even try to do, they got shot down. and, as ms.hooke mentioned today, what is the purpose of this station?

well, a.r.f. is going well. we're having our trip soon, and i just found the address of the place we're going. this is good. ^_^

i've been wracking my brain these days. rek made some comments that got me analyzing my beliefs again. i've tweaked the manifesto, wrote a dictionary (literally), and i still can't come up with anything that's not just a "floating abstraction." when you get down to it, any value if a floating abstraction.
