i just wanted to say: i love rek

i can't beleive i forgot to post about it:

yesterday morning, i turned on CTVnewsnet to find that the museaum in bhagdad has been looted.

this museaum contained relics form sumeria and assyria, the earliest civilizations in the world. the sumerian city of ur was the first city, the first place where writing and organized argiculture and trade developed. the erliest records keeperes, mathematicians, and astronomers were sumerians. they invented the wheel.

these civilizations are a part of our collective past as human beings: they are our property. we have rights to them, and responcibilites to preseve them.
it is the right of every concious homo sapien that, if the whim and economic oportunity should strike them, they may see these objects of our past.

they have been stolen. they have been taken, broaken, lost, and whatever remains has been sold into private hands, where we will never be able to find them. the human rights of every person on this planet have been violated.

and this is your democracy?

we've all been suffering that lull between march break and easter. some of us have been swamped with work, others have none (i happen to fall in the latter category, and am not enjoying it at all. i have work, yet i don't).
most of us are quite stressed with the multicultural assembly. it's creeping ever closer, and the stress is mounting.

but that's ok. all i have to do is survive tomorrow and wednesday: then i'm gonna go spend passover with rek, and then spend two days with mehaik, and after that i don't know, but it will be fun and relaxing and refreshing.

my past weekend was crazy.
friday night, we all went out to rek's place, as we've done every fridays for the past months or so. as most fridays, i had to leave to go to salsa class. and, when i came back, i found everyone in varying state on inebriation.
now see, it's not that i don't drink that's the problem. it's not even that i'm bothered when others drink. it's that i'm bothered by how i behave when others drink. i get angry, and irritable, and bitchy. and i don't like feeling that way when i'm around my friends. i want to have fun, just like everyone else. i don't want to alienate myself, or be alienated.
now i'm in a pickle of course: how do i socialize? but i guess i'll figure that one out...

saturday i spent the day walking around and drinking coffee flavored beverages with mehaik. after that, the ladies went out to celebrate emine's birthday. that was exactly what i needed: to just go out with the girls and laugh and giggle and gossip like that, the to go to cafe demetre's and absolutely drown in cake and ice cream. (i think that night may have been the single best dessert experience of my life)

and on sunday, kate said i have an ideal head. ^_^ or something close to it.
