i just wanted to add some old news: two saturdays ago, vit and i went to our favorite serbian restaurant, the crown. it's a really nice place, so typically serbian. they've got a new chef, and the gibanica (cheese pie) was really really good. it was one of those evenings when vit and i were getting along and having a rather nice time, too. there was even live music!

this weekend was really nice. i really loved kundun. i'm sure mandy and sean (who were sitting on either side of me) noticed my occasional gasps and girrs. this whole issure of what the cinese are doing to the people of tibet really upsets me. the tibetans never harmed anyone, and the cinese just up and invaded and tried to act like liberators.
"you cannot liberate me, general. only wisdom can liberate me."

also, the tiramisu at brownstone's on yonge street, is fantabulous.

i spent saturday with rek. we saw once upon a time in mexico but before that we had an argument/debate about politics. while we may disagree on a few issues, i think my problem was that i was unable to explain very clearly what my opinions were, which lead him to thinking i had been corrupted by the evil U of T communists.
we were talking about economics and human rights. i sort of came off as wanting to take away the money from the rich people in the world, and give it to the poor. this, of course, is not what i want. to take people's money is robbery. what, however, i was thinking, was what would happen if everyone in the world were paid fairly for their work. i sort of concluded that no one would be able to afford anything. of course, it later occurred to me that if no one can afford to buy anything, then there's no reason to make products, so almost everyone would be out of a job.
we could, of course, take it to the next step and say if everyone is unemployed, then prices would have to go down again... but we could go around forever like that.

my main issue is that i can't stand the thought of people all over the world being tortured, abused, deprived by their governments, and suffering in general. but frankly, i can't think of how to stop it either.

anyway, that brings us to sunday (study day) and today (freaking out because i have a midterm on thursday day).

as a last note, i've found one thing incorrect about kundun. the dalai lama is the incarnation of "Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion" not the buddha of compassion. if you know anything about buddhism, you'll know the difference.
