You know how I often bemoan how hard it is for me to find someone whom I can truly respect? Well, it's not surprising that that should be the case, when you look at some of the people crawling around on this planet.
I am currently filled with nothing but the most exquisite contempt for my fellow students in RLG101.

The prof is a sweet, charming Serbian/Croatian lady, with what appears to be a serious and highly academic interest in religion. Today she did the obligatory going-over-the-syllabus thing, and a small introduction to the course. This introduction was a mildly boring discussion on Western notions of religion as being irrelevant in our modern world, and how this very dismissal of it as a phenomena is itself very dogmatic.

No biggie, right?

It seems that it is very much a biggie for many of my classmates. First it was a ditzy girl who immediately after lecture went up to her friend and said "Ohmygod we are switching out of this!" Then it was the hoards of people who just could not, COULD NOT believe that they were expected to take notes off of what she was saying, without the aid of lecture notes or slides!

For the love of god, this is Religion, not Rocket Science! This is what they call a bird course, do you really need it to be spoon-fed to you?

I remember Dr. Smale in high school, who very much expected us to take notes as he spoke, because he insisted that this was a mere sample of what would await us in University. Poor Dr. Smale, what would he say if he saw this?

But perhaps I am being too harsh. Perhaps it's not the kids who are at fault, but the system which has allowed then to exist for 18-19 years without every having to exert their brains.
